Meet Brett Morgan

Senior Account Executive

Brett Morgan's career path didn't lead him directly to Patient Guide Solutions. In fact, Brett says he did a little bit of everything before applying for a marketing position with the company. As it turned out, it wasn't a marketing position but a sales position, and Brett still holds it nine years later.

"Before I started here, I managed a fast-food restaurant and a bowling alley. I'd also worked at a skating rink and worked at a newspaper. I even did some lawn care. I was kind of all over the place before coming here, " Brett said. "The crazy thing is, I had a brief sales job about six months before I started here.

"The funny thing was, that when I originally applied for this position, I thought it was a marketing position. That's what I went to school for. That's not what this was! It was a sales position, but I didn't want to give up."

Brett accepted the position and is now a Senior Account Executive, working with liaisons, marketers, and administrators at post-acute care facilities.

"Patients are in need of these services when they leave the hospital," Brett explained. "I work with these service providers and help them understand how the Patient Guides benefit them by connecting them with the patients. How they can be the option for the patient."

Like many of his teammates at Patient Guide Solutions, Brett has a personal experience that drives his passion for Patient Guides.

"My 'why' started in 2015 with my grandmother going through a big ordeal with severe pain," Brett said. "We took her to a local hospital to try to figure out what was going on. The hospital had their own way of doing things and it felt like we weren't getting anywhere. We didn't have the information we needed."

The hospital eventually determined his grandmother needed a care facility.

"A couple of days went by and we started Googling and setting appointments, went out and met with these facilities. Once she was there, a day or two later they called and said she didn't need their services. So, we go back to the hospital and start all over again trying to figure out what's going on and she's getting worse."

When a diagnosis was finally made, the news was not good.

"It turned out that she had cancer. It had gotten so bad she was hallucinating. She was in stage IV; it was very severe," Brett recalled. "We put her in hospice, and she passed within the week.

"It was hard. We were very close, like best friends," Brett continued. "Do you remember when we all used to burn CDs? I'd do that for her. She was a big country music and gospel fan. I'd burn her CDs and take them to her and she'd just dance."

In his position with Patient Guide Solutions, Brett strives to make sure patients and their caregivers understand their care and their options.

"I want to help. I don't want people to go through that situation," Brett said. "To lose a loved one is tough. To lose them in a way where you felt you couldn't do anything is awful."

When he's not working, Brett spends most of his time with his family.

"These days I'm managing three kids and two dogs and tackling it all with my wife," he said with a laugh. "It's all about baseball with my oldest, so we're always on the go with him.

"With my middle child, she got to a point when she was about one-and-a-half years old where she didn't want to walk or talk," he said. "We got her into an excellent school and now she talks and walks all over the place."

Brett's youngest child brought a few more changes to the family's busy life.

"My youngest was diagnosed with FPIES, a food protein allergy," Brett explained. "That changed a lot of things because we have to constantly watch what she's eating. When we go to restaurants, we are always asking people about what is in their food. Luckily, most restaurants seem to be more allergy-aware these days. It all keeps us busy, that's for sure."

In addition to working and chasing little ones, Brett enjoys the outdoors and going to baseball games.

"I'm a huge Red Sox fan, and The Travelers (one of Arkansas' two minor league baseball teams) are right down the road, so we'll go see them," Brett said. "Once the weather is nice, we try to go fishing and swimming."

"Patients are in need of these services when they leave the hospital," Brett explained. "I work with these service providers and help them understand how the Patient Guides benefit them by connecting them with the patients. How they can be the option for the patient."
